Chandigarh: Though wheat arrival declined considerably, its procurement in Punjab has reached record level of 128.5 lakh tonne (LT) so far in the ongoing rabi marketing season.

Government procurement agencies have been the bulk buyers of crop as they lifted 127.51 lakh tonne of wheat while private traders procured just 2141 tonnes of crop.

Wheat procurement this year has gone far ahead of the targeted purchase of 115 lakh tonne.

Centre's procurement agency FCI procured 19.24 lakh tonne which is 14.98 percent of total purchase.
