New Delhi: In the wake of monsoon playing truant, prices of edible commodities have skyrocketed raising the cost of other things on the whole. Whereas farmers find themselves in distress due to unfavorable monsoon in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka and Rajasthan.

Unfortunately, instead of solving the woes of the people, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar is busy in keeping intact his political fortunes.
Interestingly, only a few days back he had said that the country was ready to face this unfavorable situation despite monsoon looking unfavorable.
However, he had admitted the fact that farmers would face a daunting task to break the two-year old record of food production which seems impossible in near future.

As per records, almost 22 percent deficit rain has been recorded during the monsoon season till date which has affected the sowing of paddy and other crops. In such a scenario, it is natural that it would put the prices of edibles and vegetables on fire.

At a time when the Agriculture Minister should work out on a solid plan to grapple with the situation, it has come to notice that he is not even caring to visit his office for the last five days.

Presently, he seems to be busy in playing power game with the UPA government. At a time when the entire country is facing the pinch of rising costs, Agriculture Minister is seemed to be found to be in a tug of war with the UPA government.

Whether Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)  remains in the UPA would be clear in a day or two. However, no decision was taken in the party’s meeting which took place on Monday.

It seems Agriculture Minister is still blowing hot and cold which was visible when he boycotted a party hosted by the Prime Minister on the eve of farewell given to outgoing President Pratibha Patil.

Party ministers even chose to return the government vehicles to the ministries. Pawar even went to greet Pranab Mukherjee in his personal car and not in an official car. According to sources, reconciliatory efforts are continuing between Congress and NCP.

On the other, Congress General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi has said that these are the common things in a coalition set-up and solution seems possible after parleys between the two parties. Now the entire episode has shifted to Pune and a concrete decision is most likely on Wednesday.

NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) will meet on Tuesday at Pune. After the meeting held on Monday, NCP leader Praful Patel said that a final decision may be taken in a day or two.
