Berhampur: Police arrested a man and four of his family members in a dowry death case after his wife died in mysterious circumstances at Bipulingi in Odisha's Ganjam district, police said.

Police recovered the body of Rasmita (23), wife of Subala Patra, a grocery shop owner from his home under Chhatrapur police station yesterday, they said adding that the couple was married in January.

While the in-laws of the deceased claimed she had committed suicide, father of the deceased Sukru Padhy of Ganjam town alleged that the in-laws of his daughter killed her demanding for more dowries.

"Since the marriage, the family members of her husband had demanded more dowries. Due to failure to meet their demands, they constantly harassed her," deceased’s father alleged.

"We have recovered the body and sent for the post-mortem. The cause of the death would be known only after the post-mortem," said inspector-in-charge, Chhatrapur Dillip Kumar Tripathy.
