Banda (UP): The Uttar Pradesh officials seem to be leaving no stone unturned to put the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in awkward position. This time, the Panchayati Raj Department of Bundelkhand is mulling to distribute blankets at a time when the entire northern India is reeling under heat wave.

The district administration has already started to verify the list of beneficiaries to provide blankets by the end of this month. But the timing has made many people frowned. The step is being seen as major embarrassment for state government.

The scheme, promised by the Samajwadi Party in its poll manifesto in 2012, got budgetary allocation of Rs 200 crores. But the plan got stuck due to red-tapism. Thereby, the BPL families had to spend their winter without it.

On being asked about the reason behind the delay in providing blankets to the needy, Ashok Dikshit, Divisional Commissioner of Chitrakoot, said, “Scheme is being implemented as per the directions of District Magistrate, but we will try to know the reason why it got delayed.”
