An insider said that Rani Mukerji was first approached by the director but due to some reason she turned it down. Another source said that Tigmanshu had also approached Vidya who too refused to do the film.
Rani’s Talaash hit the marquee last year since then Rani Mukerji has not had a single release. The actress, who has no film in hand, apparently has played the date drama card for opting out of the upcoming film, Begum Samru.

Tigmanshu Dhulia has already found her replacement. He is apparently talks with Bebo to step into Rani’s shoes.

Sources said that Rani was supposed to play the titular role and the character was penned keeping her in mind. Most probably Bebo would be doing the same.

Who is Begum Samru?

Begum Samru, the ruler of Sardhana, played a critical role in the political struggle in the 18th and 19th century India. She was also the head of a professionally trained mercenary army, inherited from her European husband, Walter Reinhardt Sombre.

Actress Chitrangada Singh said in an interview last year that she would love to play a character like Begum Samru on screen.

Chitrangada who too hails from Meerut said, “I am from the same place where Samru belongs, and she had her haveli. I have seen that in my childhood, my mother took me there. So to be so closed to a historical character like that, I think it's interesting.”
