Mirzapur: In what can be witnessed as leveling the fairer sex at par with their male counterparts, women commandos will soon be seen guarding trains passing through the Naxal-affected areas. Since Mirzapur and Sonebhadra districts are the most affected areas by Naxal activities, women commandos will be deployed in the trains passing through these places.

According to sources, 300 women commandos from the Allahabad Zone have been duly trained at Patiala. These commandos are equipped with specially designed weapons to combat criminals and Naxalites. Besides helping women facing indecency and harassment in trains, these women commandos will also combat Naxalites if need be.

In the first phase, these commandos will be deployed in Naini, Allahabad, Kanpur, Chunar and Mirzapur.
The women commandos have started patrolling in trains operational on Allahabad – Kanpur routes, and will soon be deployed at the Chunar-Chopan route, railway sources stated.

Chandauli, Khoradih and Bhawanipur have been affected by Naxal violence in the past with the Peoples War Group being active here.

It is noteworthy that due to security concerns there was a major plan to run a pilot engine in front of the main train operational on Chunar - Chopan railway block but even after seven months the plan has yet to see the light of the day.

However, RPF sources maintained that the women commandos who came here in February are currently deployed in the trains running between New Delhi and Kanpur. They will soon be deployed in Naxal affected areas to look after the safety of passengers.
