Srinagar, Jan 25 (Agencies): State Women’s Commission (SWC) on Monday said that the lack of self-confidence among women in Jammu and Kashmir is becoming one of the biggest impediments in the progress of the fairer sex.

"The women in the state lack self confidence, which is proving to be a major impediment in the path towards their progress and prosperity," chairperson of the commission Shamima Firdous said.

While addressing a seminar at the Kashmir University, Firdous, who is also an MLA from Habba Kadal Assembly segment said oppression against women in various forms is spreading like cancer.

Firdous said the role of women is being ignored.

"This trend needs a reversal," she said, emphasising on creating awareness among women, which will lead to their empowerment.
