'Raksha Bandhan' or 'Rakhi' is a special occasion to celebrate this emotional bonding by tying a holy thread around the wrist.

A shopkeeper, Pradeep Kumar Gupta, said people under the effect of inflation are buying Chinese rakhis as they are affordable.

“Chinese rakhis (scared thread) are light weight and beautiful. That’s why they are better and customers find them affordable also,” he added.

A wide variety of colourful ‘rakhis' are available in market. Traditional designs laid in ‘panch-dhatu’ and Swarovski have a tinge of gold.

Raksha Bandhan occupies a special place in the Hindu religious calendar. The festival is celebrated with fervour and gaiety among people from different communities.

'Rakhi' is a symbol of affection and bonding between sisters and brothers. This year the Raksha Bandhan festival will be celebrated on August 10.
