New Delhi: The women inmates of Tihar Jail are going to participate for the first time in the placement drive organised by 12 companies from various sectors in the jail premises as a part of rehabilitation process of the prisoners after their release.

“In the recruitment drive to be carried out by 12 companies from various sectors including hotel management, hospitality, web designing and construction, 80 prisoners will be interviewed on Tuesday,”  jail spokesperson Sunil Gupta said.

“Out of 80 inmates appearing for interview at Jail No 3, 10 will be female,” he added.

"It is the third campus placement. In the earlier two drives, out of 92 inmates who were absorbed by different companies, 10 have already joined," Deputy Inspector General, R N Sharma said.

“Once the placement process is over, the selected candidates will get the offer letter and they will join the respective companies soon after their release” Sharma added.

He said that the prisoners with remaining jail term of six months to one year were shortlisted and groomed by proper professionals.

About 16 percent of women prisoners have completed their matriculation and about 10 percent are graduate. Moreover, most of them have also successfully completed their education in different courses run by IGNOU in the jail campus.
