"We won't let communal forces succeed or take advantage of the polarization. We will crush such forces before they rear their heads again," Mulayam said, addressing a programme to mark his birthday celebrations in New Delhi at India International Islamic Centre.

Describing Muzaffarnagar riots as ‘unfortunate’, the ex-Uttar Pradesh CM said that the state government has given adequate compensation of Rs 5 lakh per family to rebuild their lives.

"Post Godhra, the Gujarat government had not announced any major compensation. But we have ensured proper compensation to rehabilitate the people," he said.

Mulayam, whose party is ruling in Uttar Pradesh, where his son Akhilesh Yadav is Chief Minister, also claimed that the state government ensured that policemen are recruited from the minority community even as the Central Government has ‘not yet implemented’ the recommendations of Sachar Committee in this regard.
