Having made it to the main round of the Greco-Roman 66kg after beating Matous Morbitzer of Czech Republic 3-1, the last year's bronze medallist at Budapest failed to live up to his reputation and lost 1-3 to Azerbaijan's Hasan Aliyev in the first round of the main competition.
Another Indian in the fray, Harpreet Singh lost his qualifying round bout in 80kg Greco-Roman to Evgeny Saleev of Russia 0-4, but he made it to the repechage round after his opponent made it to the finals.
While Harpreet did well to thwart the challenge from Jonas Bossert of Switzerland 3-1 in his first repechage, he lost to Croatia's Bozo Starcevic 0-3 in his second repechage to crash out of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Dharmender Dalal suffered a 0-5 defeat in the qualifying round of 130kg Greco-Roman at the hands of Kazakhstan's Nurmakhan Tinaliyev.
