As unusual as it sounds, Italian neuroscientist Dr. Sergio Canavero has paired up with Chinese surgeon Dr. Xiaoping Ren for world's first ever head transplant, having found their volunteer.

The person who has agreed to undergo this procedure is Russian man named Valery Spiridonov. Spiridonov is suffering from rare neurological disease called Werdnig-Hoffmann Disease and has resultantly become incapable of body and muscle movements. Spiridonov's movements are limited to eating, typing and controlling wheelchair with a joystick.

This risky operation will be performed as soon as 2017 and has already started being opposed by a section of scientists, who have gone to the extent of charging the doctors with murder if Spiridonov unfortunately dies.

The operation will rely on the availability of suitable donor from a young brain-dead male patient.
