Jammu: World’s oldest postage stamp Penny Black is about to reach Jammu by plane amid tight security on Thursday. The much acclaimed oldest stamp of the world will be exhibited in the Himalayan state for the first time in history.

The stamp bearing the picture of Queen Victoria that marked the onset of a new postage era belongs to year 1840-41. The viewers can also savour the rare experience of seeing the 2d Penny Blue stamp along with the Penny Black.

The stamps were expected to reach Jammu on Wednesday but due to some reason, the arrival got delayed.

The visitors who visited the exhibition were left disappointed and had to remain content by seeing the photograph of the original stamp.

The original stamp will be exhibited on Thursday amid tight security. The security system has been updated to ensure complete safety of the 171-year-old stamp. It is to be noted, the rare stamps have also been insured before being displayed at the exhibition.
