New Delhi: Indian wrestler Amit Kumar on Monday has promised his coach Mahabali Satpal of bagging a gold medal in the London Olympic Games 2012.

Amit became the first Indian wrestler on Friday to book London Olympics berth by clinching a gold medal (55 kg category) at the Asian Qualifying Tournament on Friday, in Astana, Kazakhstan.

“I will qualify for the London Olympics and will also bag a gold medal in the London Games” the 19-year old Indian grappler told his coach before leaving for Kazakhstan.

Amit’s Coach Satpal said, “I started coaching Amit eight years ago when he was in sixth standard. A resident of Nahri village near Narela became the blue eyed boy of Chatrasaal stadium.  At a very tender age, he started taking classes from top wrestlers”.

“He even started taking training under the stalwarts like Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt” Satpal said.

“With time and hard work, Amit improved his skills. After a magnificent show at school level, he proved his mettle and clinched gold in World Cadet, Asia Cadet and Asian Junior level. Last year he was on top position in Senior National Wrestling Tournament” he said.

“With a stupendous performance, Amit bagged a gold medal in America and continued his stunning feat at Olympic trials. He won bronze in Senior Asian Championship, held last month”.

Cherishing his student’s performance in the qualifiers, Satpal said, “Amit’s defensive is very strong and other wrestlers will have a tough task against him”.
