Gandhinagar (JPN/Bureau): With the commencement of second phase of Census-2011, Jain community has been asked to mention their religion in the form filled during the process.

Appealing the Jain community to write Jain as their religion in the space mentioned in form, Jain Muni Mitranand Sagarji Maharaj in Ahmedabad said that people belonging to this group should write Jain as their religion rather than Hindu.

He said that it was difficult to know the actual population of Jain because people were not writing Jain in the religion column.

Gujarat government had passed a bill saying that Jain community comes under Hindu religion. After protest from the community, the bill is pending with the Governor.

Chief Director of Census Manish Bhardwaj said that people of any community can mention their religion since the form has the facility for the same.
