Siri can do more than ever, and new proactive suggestions help users get things done before they ask. The operating system enhances performance, battery life, and security.

The powerful built-in apps on your iPhone and iPad are designed for the essential things you use them for every day — mail, messages, web browsing, maps, making notes, and so much more. iOS 9 brings key enhancements to several of these apps, and introduces a brand-new one that will change how you experience news.

iOS 9 adds a new app to your Home screen. News conveniently collects all the stories you want to read, from top news sources, based on topics you’re most interested in — so you no longer need to move from app to app to stay informed. News also combines the rich and immersive design found in print with the interactivity of digital media, letting you enjoy stunningly crafted articles just how the publisher intended.

Siri now has a feature called Proactive that can offer app suggestions and more based on context such as time of day or location. Siri see what apps you have on your phone and suggest useful ones based on what you're trying to do. It can also look into your inbox to ID incoming calls that aren't in your address book.

iOS 9 also introduces deep linking within Spotlight searches, letting you access content within apps whenever you do a system-wide search, instead of just opening the app's main page. Spotlight also can do unit conversions without opening a web search, something that Siri has done for a while, but now queries can be typed in addition to spoken.
