The registration for the handset has already commenced on Flipkart, which is the only retailer of the Chinese company's products in India.

It is to be noted that Redmi 1s is a budget phone priced at Rs 5,999, and the company is betting big on its success.

The smartphone sports a 4.7-inch 720p IPS display and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor supported by 1GB of RAM.

Redmi 1s have 16GB internal storage capacity and a microSD card slot for expansion up to 64GB. It features 8MP rear camera and a 1.6MP front shooter.

The Redmi 1S comes with 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Direct and hotspot functionality, Micro-USB, Bluetooth 4.0, FM radio, GPS/ A-GPS, and USB OTG connectivity options. It is powered by a 2000mAh battery, weighs 158 grams, and has dimensions of 137x69x9.9mm.
