New Delhi: On the assurance of Central Government, Yamuna Rakshak Dal has defered the Mukti Yatra (Yamuna cleaning campaign) by a day. Union Water Resources Minister Harish Rawat assured the Rakshak Dal that the government will try to find a solution over the issue on Monday.

The Central Government has also assured to make statement in the Parliament over the issue on Monday. As the Parliament is in the session, the government can’t make statement outside the House. The main Opposition BJP has already made it clear that they will raise the issue in the Parliament.

Talking to Sant Jai Krishna Das, the national president, Yamuna Rakshak Dal over phone, Harish Rawat said that the government will try to arrive at conclusion by holding talks with the state governments concerned.

Jai Krishna Das said, “We will wait for the government to come up with a solution. But we will not stop the campaign unless the government accepts our demands.” On being asked about the issue being politicized by the BJP, Das said that this is not a political movement.

Sources said that the Union Minister wants that the Haryana government should release more water from Hathini Kund. Meanwhile, the sources close to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that it will not be an easy task for the state government to do. It is the reason that Hooda stressed on the presence of his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Akhilesh Yadav during the talks over the issue.

In the present context, the Centre is expected to build a parallel drain to Yamuna in order to halt the disposal of filthy water in it. Yamuna Rakshak Dal has been demanding to stop the discharge of sewer waste into the river by drains of Delhi.
