Karnataka, Jan 28 (Jagran News Network): The Somashekhara Commission probing into Mangalore riots of 2008 has given clean chit to Karnataka Government, stating that the state police had no role behind the attacks.

The Commission, headed by Justice BK Somashekhara, further pointed out that Hindu groups had no role in attacks on churches, saying that unknown miscreants were behind the attacks in Mangalore in 2008.

Karnataka had witnessed a spate of attacks on churches and prayer halls in September 2008.

The attacks began after allegations of forced conversions, land grabbing and distribution of inflammatory literature targeting Hindu gods by the New Life Church - a fringe Protestant group operating in the state- surfaced.

The one-man Commission on Friday submitted its final report to Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa.
