Things are going to be difficult for Yeddyurappa this time around mainly as Geetha, the daughter of ex-Karnataka chief minister Sarekoppa Bangarappa, who conceded defeat to the Lingayat strongman’s son BY Raghvendra in the last general elections in Shimoga, has pulled up her socks to avenge her father’s defeat.

Geetha, who enjoys quite a say in the political as well as cinematic arena, has been fielded by the Janata Dal (Secular) and this has further heightened Yeddyurappa’s worries in his home constituency.

The magnitude of the contest can be gauged by the fact that BSY is confined only to Shimoga and gives a little time to campaign in other constituencies in the state. Among all the former chief ministers contesting the elections, the Lingayat strongman is the lone leader who is testing the waters of Parliamentary grapple for the first time.

Last time, when Yeddyurappa was emerging as the rising star in Karnataka, Raghvendra defeated Bangarappa from the prestigious seat of Shimoga. After his homecoming, the BJP, instead of granting ticket to BSY’s son, fielded him from here. For the influential Lingayat leader, the elections are going to be a major acid test and in case he passes out in convincing colours, he may be able to restore his lost pride in the party.

He, however, is facing a tough task ahead as Geetha, who is the daughter of Bangarappa and wife of popular cine star Shivrajkumar, is looking all geared-up to give him a good run for the money. Shivrajkumar is the son of Rajkumar, known as Amitabh Bachhan of Kannad cinema, and his influence over the masses can be clearly grasped from this very fact.

For Geetha, several factors like being Bangarappa’s daughter, Shivrajkumar’s wife and Rajkumar’s daughter-in-law are expected to work in her favour and BSY may face an extremely arduous job to prove his mettle.
