Bangalore: A youth in Karnataka's Raichur district has been quizzed by investigating agencies for allegedly making a call to Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, with officials concluding that it was an "accidental" call by the student who could speak only Kannada.

Acting on a complaint by the Foreign Minister's office about the incident which occurred three months ago, CBI and Intelligence Bureau officials had visited the district last month and the youth, Veeresh, a student of a local college, was questioned by Bangalore Crime Branch sleuths.

During questioning, it was found to be an "accidental call" made by Veeresh, while he was trying to contact his relatives, Raichur SP, Bisnalli said.

"And since he is a rural boy who can converse only in Kannada and does not know Hindi or English, the question of verbal abuse does not arise," he said.

However, when contacted, Director General and Inspector General of Police, Shankar Bidari said the incident happened two-three months back and as reported by some section of the media, the youth had called the Pakistan Foreign Minister.

"What is the conversation that took place between them, we are not aware. But after enquiry by local police and the IB, it has been proven beyond doubt that he did not make the call with wrong intentions. The call was accidental," Bidari added.
