Ever since the release date of the film has been announced, Syed Zeeshan Qadri, writer of the script that is based on the coal mafia of Wasseypur (a small town near Dhanbad in Jharkhand), has started getting death threats. It is also reported that the residents of Wasseypur are protesting against the title of the film as they think it could portray them negatively and destroy their reputation.

Denying the rumours of getting threat calls Kashyap said, “There is one person who enjoys so-called political clout giving us thereat calls only to fetch media attention. We had not faced any trouble during our shooting and the residents of Wassypur were very supportive. They are eagerly waiting to see the movie.”

Kashyap, who believes that youths of India understand movie better than old generation, said if the Gangs of Wasseypur performs well, it may change the approach of audience towards realistic cinema. On asking about the future of realistic movies and new age directors Kashyap said, “Waasypur has no well known actors except Manoj, no lavish locations, in one sentence my movie has no element  which can make it a blockbuster as per the demands of market. In spite of this if Gangs of Wasseypur does well on box-office, the territory for the directors like me will expand.”

Manoj who is playing a pivotal role in this movie said that there is no word “Negative” or Positive in film industry, it is all about the role or characters we play. When asked about the possibility of coming into comedy film, Manoj said, “I don’t need to be in comedy film to showcase my comic streak of personality, I think I have played many comic roles earlier like Bhiku Mhatre in movie Satya and you can even see me cracking jokes and making people laugh in Gangs of Wasseypur” as well.

Asked about actors not getting much leeway while working with Anurag, Bajpayee said, “Anurag always finishes a script with a note saying, ‘script to be improvised by actors’. How many directors of our industry do that? He always shows full faith in his cast and he believes as we are supposed to give flesh and blood to the characters we understand the need of the role much.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, a small town man from Muzaffarnagar and best known as Inspector Khan from Kahaani, is also part of this movie and playing a very important role, named Faizal.

“There is no short cut to success. I have really worked hard to reach this place and I would like to convey the same message to every aspiring actor from small towns to work hard and do not quit,” said Nawazuddin.

On being asked about Anurag’s affinity towards complex topics he said, “Simple is boring in film industry and nobody wants to watch a movie based on simple issues that is why we try to showcase complicated issues in the films.”
