YoutTube planning to launch subscription video service?

YouTube is reportedly planning to launch a subscription option for its 'best original content'.

According to The Verge, the video-sharing website is "exploring the prospect of launching its own subscription VOD service."

The subscription will offer users ad-free streaming of certain video content that are part of the program. Such videos are expected to be categorized under the YouTube Originals banner.

The report said that the move may be seen as a response to rising pressure from competitors such as, Vimeo, Hulu, Vessel, and others.

By bringing in a paid subscription service, YouTube would not only be able to offer more money to its content creators but also strengthen its bottom line.

YouTube is set to launch its long-awaited paid monthly subscription service called YouTube Music Key in a few months, said Robert Kyncl, the online video service's head of content and business operations, at the Code/Media conference.
